Dear Members,
Welcome to the start the second quarter of the year, sometimes referred to as the AGM season. SID is pleased to work with Singapore Exchange Regulation and Securities Investors Association (Singapore) to update the Guide on Best Practices for Shareholder Meetings of Listed Companies. This revised guide seeks to enable shareholders to participate and reduce the AGM crunch.
In the meantime, the Institute continues to roll out initiatives to support members on their directorship journey, providing resources and opportunities to increase knowledge, hone skills and widen networks.
To gain insights on how board directors can combat the rising tide of fraud and scams, read our Q2 2024 issue of the SID Directors Bulletin. Themed “Fraud and Scams”, this edition covers a breadth of topics including tactics employed by fraudsters and risks posed by emerging technologies like generative AI. Learn what countermeasures are available to organisations and what directors can do to increase their knowledge on cyber security. The SID Directors Bulletin is available as a flipbook, and accessible only by SID members.
For members who are first-time appointees of an SGX-listed company board or are preparing to join one, sign up for the upcoming modules of the Listed Entity Director programme. The programme, which is supported by the Singapore Exchange, comprises five core modules and four elective modules on the range of regulatory compliance and corporate governance matters of listed companies in Singapore. Check out the upcoming dates here.
Aspiring directors can now register for the second cohort of SID’s flagship Board Readiness Programme which commences in July 2024. Featuring knowledge modules, board simulations and mentorship, the year-long programme takes a holistic approach in equipping senior corporate leaders with fundamental knowledge and skills to be a board director. Find out more here.
Members in the charities and nonprofit sector can look forward to joining the Essentials of Nonprofit Board Leadership, part of our Governance for Outstanding Organisation Directors (SGOOD) programme. All exempt, registered charities and Institutions of a Public Character can apply for the Charities Capability Fund, subject to approval.
There are also other learning sessions such as Current Topics, a series of talks, forums, roundtables, workshops and panel discussions on current topics of interest to directors. Look out for Dealing with Distress, Navigating Personal Data Protection and Data Breaches and Stay Ahead of the Game: Navigate GST Changes and more this quarter.
To help members widen their professional circles, there are a number of events planned for the quarter including a Members Networking Event on 16 May. The Family Business Group will be holding their first networking event of the year with the theme of “Best Practices for Family Business Boards”. To get notified of events organised by chapters and networks, indicate on the preference tab in your member profile page the SID chapters and networks you would like to join. There is no joining fee or limit to the number of chapters or networks members can join.
Finally, we are delighted to share that Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development, will grace the occasion of the launch of the SID Director Accreditation Programme on 10 May 2024. The event, which will feature a fireside chat moderated by immediate past SID Chair Ms Wong Su-Yen, will be live-streamed on SID’s LinkedIn page. Members are welcome to join the event virtually by visiting the page from 10am. No registration is required.
