CHAIR & CEO MESSAGE

Dear member,
Happy 2024!
We start off the year with gratitude, excitement and hope as we recount the highlights of our 25th anniversary year. And as we look ahead to the new year, we are happy to share that:
- Our first-ever donation drive for the Community Chest of Singapore translated to a total of $250,000 for the Community Capability Trust, after a one-for-one contribution by Chew Sutat and a matching grant by the Singapore Government and Tote Board.
- We crossed the 4,000-membership milestone for the first time in the Institute’s history.
- Ahead of the public launch of the SID accreditation programme, we received more than 1,000 applications from eligible SID members registering for Accredited Director or Senior Accredited Director credentials.
Stay tuned for more exciting plans in store for members:
Do save the date for the following key events:
- April: Accreditation Conferment Ceremony
- May: Fellows Evening
- June: CGS Virtual Summit
- 12 July: SID Golf Tournament
- 1 October: SID Directors Conference
- 17 October: Corporate Governance Roundup and Annual General Meeting
We have revamped our corporate membership packages to allow for more nominees and are running membership campaigns. We ask that you help spread the word so that more directors can benefit from the Institute’s offerings.
Much of our work is possible because of strong support from our members. Starting in the new year, we extend a warm welcome to more than 120 SID members who have volunteered their time to serve on 16 SID committees as well as core team members on five SID networks.
We would also like to welcome onboard Ivan Ng, who was elected into the SID Governing Council at our AGM, as well as Fermin Diez, Lee Sze Yeng and Dhirendra Shantilal who were co-opted.
On behalf of the SID Governing Council and Executive Team, we wish you a healthy and successful year ahead and look forward to see you at our upcoming activities.
Yours in directorship,

ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard Briefing
How Singapore Can Improve its Transparency and Scorecard Ranking
23 January 2024 | 10.00am – 12.00pm | SGX Auditorium
(Complimentary for members)
Political and economic uncertainty have exposed structural and systemic weaknesses in a post-pandemic world. The ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard was revised in 2023, in response to the updated G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance, to include updated criteria on shareholder rights and equitable treatment, transparency and disclosure, and board responsibility in a new era of sustainability and resilience. In this session organised by SID and NUS’s Centre for Governance and Sustainability, participants gain insights into areas where Singapore companies can improve their scores by implementing best practices in corporate governance.
