PSP 5 - Innovating with Assurance: Governing AI Risks through the ARC

PIT-STOPS
As organisations accelerate their adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), governance teams have to manage complex and fast-evolving risks. This session explores how audit and risk committees (ARCs) can build oversight capability across key AI risks, to ensure security, safety, reliability and fairness. Through real-world case studies and an interactive breakout activity, participants will examine the practical implications of AI failures and how leading ARCs are responding. Drawing on insights from KPMG’s Trusted AI team, the session offers frameworks and tools to help board members ask the right questions and strengthen governance around AI-enabled systems.

Objectives

  • Equip ARC and board members with foundational knowledge of AI risk categories and their implications.
  • Provide actionable guidance on how ARCs can structure their oversight of AI systems across their lifecycle.
  • Gain insights from real-world case studies such as the OmniGPT breach and Maybank deepfake scam.
  • Highlight the importance of cyber security, bias mitigation and fairness audits in AI systems.
  • Facilitate interactive breakout sessions to encourage peer learning and shared accountability in addressing emerging AI risks.
