CHAIR & CEO MESSAGE

Dear member,
We wrapped up the Institute’s 25th Anniversary celebrations with our final commemorative event. The first-ever SID members’ gala was attended by more than 500 guests including SID’s founding council members, past chairs, past and current council members, fellows, members, partners and friends.
We were honoured to have Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development grace the event, and grateful for her speech acknowledging SID’s contributions to the Corporate Governance ecosystem in Singapore. We are inspired by her call for all to work together to strengthen Singapore's reputation for excellence in corporate governance, and make Singapore the go-to destination for investors and global businesses.
In his opening address to members, SID Chair Yeoh Oon Jin honoured our past achievements, celebrated our ongoing initiatives, and highlighted three key areas moving forward. In the coming months, SID will focus on increasing and diversifying our membership base, ensuring the success of our accreditation programme, and deepening our partnerships with key stakeholders in the Corporate Governance ecosystem.
Appreciating our Members
The evening marked the start of an initiative to commemorate SID members’ 5, 10 and 20 years of membership with the Institute. Commemorative milestone collar pins will be sent to members, as an expression of our appreciation for their support of SID.
Building the Future
To celebrate our Silver Jubilee, SID launched a special 25th anniversary edition of Boardroom Matters. The special edition comprise a mix of the most impactful articles published in The Business Times from the thought leadership collection reflecting our 25th anniversary theme of Governance for Good. The contributors, all members of SID’s Governing Council and Committees, provide insights that can help guide leaders to navigate the complex terrain of corporate governance.
Celebrating our Stakeholders
SID is proud to launch a fundraising campaign for Community Chest of Singapore in support of the Community Capability Trust (CCT). Thanks to matching grants from the Singapore Government and the Tote Board, on top of a personal matching by SID member and Chair of ComChest Mr Chew Sutat for the first $25,000 donated, CCT will receive $6 for every $1 contributed. We hope that members and friends donate generously to the cause before the campaign ends on 31 December 2023.
As we look forward to welcoming the new year, we would like to highlight some key initiatives:
- The SID Accreditation programme will enter the roll-out phase where eligible members can sign up for the accreditation exam to achieve their accredited director credentials. To date, more than 800 members who meet the eligibility criteria to be exempted from the accreditation exam have claimed their accredited status – and we encourage you to do the same if you meet the eligibility criteria.
- Close to 450 members are now piloting the SIDgpt prototype developed by NCS specifically for SID. If you would like to experience this generative-AI powered contextual search engine built for directors in Singapore, visit this page for details. The pilot will end in February 2024.
- Professional development courses running in early 2024 are now open for registration. Do sign up before 31 December 2023 to pay the prevailing 8% GST instead of 9% GST which kicks in 2024. Click here for list of courses.
On behalf of the SID Governing Council and Executive Team, we would like to thank all members and partners for the strong support and contribution to the Institute’s work, and we wish one and all happy holidays and an even better 2024!
Yours in directorship,
|
Yeoh Oon Jin, FSID
