Good Governance Never Sleeps
September looks set to be another action-packed month.
Our annual SID Directors Conference on 1 October is shaping up well to deliver yet another dynamic experience for board and company leaders.
Guest-of-Honour Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, will have a dialogue with SID immediate past chair Wong Su-Yen. Their discussion on global shifts and trends and their impact on Singapore promises to be a riveting session.
Koh Boon Hwee, chairman of SGX Group will engage in conversation on Thriving Boards in Disruptive Times. And a panel comprising leaders from MAS, ACRA, SGX and Charity Council will share their perspectives on how directors can navigate the changes to Singapore’s regulatory landscape.
Four interactive zones will feature sessions on digital, human capital, sustainability and directorship. And to wrap up the programme, there’ll be a happy hour in the main hall. We can’t wait to bring together more than 800 speakers, partners and attendees for a day of experience sharing, knowledge exchange and professional networking.
If you’ve missed out on earlier ticket offers, you can enjoy special discounts for purchase of two or more tickets. Write in to [email protected] to secure your seats.
To borrow a phrase from the Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI), “Good Governance Never Sleeps”. The GNDI will hold its 24-hour virtual conference from 29 to 30 October. Representing 26 institutes of directors around the world (including SID), GNDI connects more than 150,000 directors and governance professionals. Registration is free.
The SID Director Accreditation programme was launched in May. Accreditation supports SID’s mission to uplift the directorship profession by establishing standards for director competency and encourages directors to stay relevant through continuous professional development.
An online search tool on SID website will be available later this month for members of the public to verify the credentials of accredited directors and senior accredited directors. Directors keen to achieve an accreditation credential can sign up for the SID Accreditation Exam taking place in October (the next window will be in 2025). You can also register for the online preparatory course here.
For members waiting to attend the Listed Entity Director Programme, registration for the in-person courses in October is now open. For a limited time, participants who complete the full programme – all nine modules including the ESG Essentials – will receive a complimentary set of Corporate Governance Guides for Boards in Singapore, access to webinars and regulatory updates, and priority registration for the Audit and Risk Committee Seminar in January 2025.
SID is excited to announce the Advanced Programme in Sustainability for Listed Entity Directors, starting in November. Supported by Singapore Exchange Regulation and developed in collaboration with KPMG in Singapore, this advanced course will help prepare board directors to meet evolving regulatory requirements. Indicate your interest to receive updates on the programme here.

Looking ahead, SID would like to inform members of a forthcoming adjustment in membership fees from $250 to $300 per annum starting 1 July 2025. This change will fuel SID’s growth plans to provide high-quality programmes and services that support directors’ professional development and the advancement of corporate governance in Singapore.

The momentum for bolder climate action is gaining pace. Boards play a critical role in setting climate-related goals, overseeing management’s implementation of sustainability strategies, and ensuring alignment with the company’s long-term objectives.

Singapore Governance & Transparency Forum
1 August 2024
The SGTI assessment found that Singapore-listed companies and trusts have performed strongly in the areas of shareholder rights as well as environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, with an overall mean SGTI score of 69.3 points in the General Category. This year’s results reflect tougher assessment criteria, with a stronger focus on sustainability and updated regulations. Smaller companies have made progress in fundamentals of sustainability reporting such as materiality (identification of material topics, selection process used). Almost all companies disclose these, regardless of size. SGTI is a collaborative effort by SID, CPA Australia and NUS Centre for Governance and Sustainability. Find out more about it here.
