CTP 3: A board's perspective on scaling AI with ISO 42001

Current Topics
As artificial intelligence (AI) shapes business models, decision-making and reputational risk, boards must ensure that its use aligns with corporate purpose, regulatory expectations and stakeholder trust. Using Singapore Standard ISO/IEC 42001:2024 as a board-level governance framework, this session explains when AI becomes a board issue, how it connects to enterprise risk management (ERM) and what effective oversight looks like. Participants will explore real-world scenarios of companies adopting the new ISO standard and receive a board-ready checklist to engage management and vendors. Presenters will highlight practical lessons and pitfalls to help embed AI risks into ERM and align AI governance with existing disclosure, cyber security and data-trust frameworks.

Course objectives

  • Differentiate board responsibility and management execution, using ISO/IEC 42001:2024.
  • Align policy, incentives, training and exception handling for responsible AI practices.
  • Use a board-ready checklist to navigate safeguards, testing and data-use controls.
  •  Evaluate case studies to extract dos and don’ts and avoid common governance gaps.
