Course description

In today’s dynamic business landscape, Trade Associations and Chambers (TACs) play a pivotal role in representing industry interests, fostering innovation and driving economic growth. This programme is tailored for council members and senior management of Singapore’s TACs and seeks to enhance leadership and strategic capabilities. With effective governance as the foundation of thriving TACs, this programme provides critical insights and practical tools to strengthen organisational governance, cultivate strong leadership and deliver meaningful impact.

Course objectives

  • Understand key governance principles, TAC governance frameworks and roles of council members and committees.
  • Build effective, diverse councils and foster healthy council-executive dynamics.
  • Address issues around conflicts of interest, ethical decision-making and governance.
  • Develop strategies to enhance council effectiveness and leadership competencies.
  • Apply governance practices to position TACs as sustainable, influential entities in Singapore.

The half-day programme will cover the following areas:

Corporate governance and director duties

  • Understanding corporate governance.
  • Code of Corporate Governance, TAC Governance Framework, Code of Governance for Registered Societies.
  • Corporate and director duties, committees, conflicts of interest and key areas of handling.
  • Group discussion: Council and management relationship in corporate governance.

Human capital and performance

  • Building an effective TAC council.
  • Council diversity and composition.
  • Effective council and executive team dynamics.
  • Governing for performance.
  • Group discussion: Building a high-performing council.

 

Target audience

Current, new or aspiring directors and senior management of Trade Associations and Chambers (TACs) in Singapore.
