SGOOD
The effectiveness of an organisation is dependent on senior management working hand-in-hand with its board and its committees. This session examines the role of board members as governors and volunteers. It also highlights the necessary policies and practices to improve communication, foster trust, and promote collaboration on strategic and operational matters between board and management.


Course Objectives

  1. Differentiate the roles of board and management.  
  2. Analyse best board practices in terms of strategy and operations.
  3. Examine the role of board and staff members.
  4.  Apply tools to help boards control and support management.

Note: All exempt, registered charities and Institutions of a Public Character can apply for a training grant from the Charities Capability Fund. Do note that funding is subject to approval by the National Council of Social Service. In the event that funding is rejected, participants will be liable to pay the full course fee.


SPEAKER

Kitson Leonard Lee
Head, Centre for Non-Profit Leadership, NVPC

Mr Kitson Lee is Head of the Centre for Non-Profit Leadership, NVPC. He serves as adviser to the boards of Kowabunga Global and Digital Philanthropy. He is also an independent director and board member of various charities, including ODT Limited, Suncare SG and GEN Singapore. An active grassroots volunteer, Mr Lee serves on numerous community organisations, including as chair of the Nonprofits network at the Singapore Institute of Directors. He was Secretary-General and board member of the Asian Network for Quality (2013-2020) and Coordinating Secretary of the World Alliance for Quality (2013-2014). He also served on the boards of the Singapore Quality Institute (2004-2019) and SQI International (2016-2020).

Glen Ong
Executive Director, The Girls' Brigade Singapore

Mr Glen Ong is the Executive Director of The Girls' Brigade Singapore. He has worked with nonprofit organisations for the greater part of his professional career and has served on, and led boards of locally and internationally affiliated faith-based and youth-focused organisations. Mr Ong has brought not only structure but also excellence, community relevance and a pioneering spirit to organisations he has been a part of. He is an IT engineer by training and holds a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies.

Felicia Chua
Executive Director, Suncare SG

Ms Felicia Chua is the Executive Director of Suncare SG and serves as a board member on the boards of St John’s Home for Elderly Persons and Society for Continence, Singapore. Ms Chua has served in the social service sector for more than two decades and has been actively involved in medical and educational missions with the Anglican Diocese of Singapore. She has also worked alongside missionaries to build a pre-school in Chiangmai, Thailand.
