Built on JP Wilson’s proprietary “Ascend” model, the programme equips participants with a practical framework for leading strategy from the boardroom to value realisation in the marketplace. It takes directors through the full strategic arc: formulating growth strategy through disciplined strategic choices, creating value through innovation governance and corporate venture, accelerating value through artificial intelligence and leadership succession, stress-testing value through threat emergence and scenario planning, and ultimately realising value through disciplined execution and oversight.
Across seven modules, each 30-minute segment is paired with a hands-on participant intervention, enabling directors to apply concepts, test assumptions, and sharpen board-level judgement in real time. The programme concludes with a Boardroom Dialogue and Strategy Wrap-Up, consolidating the day’s insights into actionable board practice. Participants leave with a practical toolkit for shaping, challenging, governing, and stewarding strategy at the board table.
Course Objectives
- Apply JP Wilson’s "Ascend" model to formulate growth strategy at the board level, distinguishing the board's role in strategy formulation from management's role in execution.
- Exercise innovation governance by structuring board oversight of innovation pipelines, R&D investment, and stewardship of long-horizon bets without stifling experimentation.
- Evaluate corporate venture opportunities as levers for value creation alongside the core business.
- Establish AI guardrails at the board level, balancing the strategic upside of artificial intelligence against ethical, operational, and reputational risks.
- Lead leadership and succession planning by mapping organisational compass to executive competence, ensuring leadership capability is aligned with strategic direction.
- Anticipate and stress-test threats through scenario planning, and identify emerging disruptors before they materially impact the business.
- Drive disciplined execution by setting the board's expectations for strategic milestones, accountability mechanisms, and course-correction triggers.
- Integrate boardroom judgement through a case study, translating frameworks into practical decisions amid shareholder change and market uncertainty.
