Community and Collaboration

Dear Members,

We kicked off the new year with new initiatives, partnerships and thought-provoking dialogues.

SID Chairpersons Guild, a community of practice exclusive to incumbent board chairs of SGX-listed companies was established on 16 January 2026. Supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and SGX Group, the Chairpersons Guild is part of the "Value Unlock" programme. The launch was officiated by Chee Hong Tat, Minister for National Development and Deputy Chair of MAS.

To complement SID’s work in uplifting the directorship profession, the newly-launched SID Board Academy will offer bespoke whole-of-board solutions to transform boards and enhance board effectiveness.

At our upcoming Post-Budget Perspectives 2026 on 3 March, we will distil actionable insights from Singapore Budget 2026.

SID members engaged with Jeffrey Siow, Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance in a closed-door dialogue where he shared insights from the Economic Strategy Review and how the government plans to use Budget 2026 to reinforce Singapore’s position as a trusted global financial hub.

SID also launched the QLED Badge, a domain specialisation badge recognising directors’ competency, awarded to those who complete the Listed Entity Director Programme and demonstrate proficiency through an exam. Join the preview session on 26 February to learn more.

Listed Entity Director Exchange

SID is adding a new module on Board Strategy for Value Up to our flagship Listed Entity Director Programme. Recognised by SGX Group as part of its “Value Up” programme, the module is eligible for funding under SGX’s Equip Fund. We are also pleased to launch the LED Exchange, a community of practice for directors of listed companies to access regulatory updates, peer learning and networking.

We expanded our cooperation with VIETSTAR Institute of Management and Consulting with a Memorandum of Understanding witnessed by former Temasek Chair Lim Boon Heng. SID Board Academy will co-organise the 6th edition of Vietnam-Singapore Board Forum in Vietnam (25-27 June) and offer training to Vietnamese directors.

SID Board Academy will be collaborating with regional and global partners to offer a number of programmes:

  • In collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Emeritus, the Advanced Global Directors Programme equips directors with governance insights and direct exposure to China’s enterprises and innovation ecosystems for senior directors managing cross-border growth and risk.
  • Asia’s first Accelerated Certificate in Company Direction Programme is an intensive six-day residential course offered jointly with the UK IOD, covering board roles, leadership, finance and strategy. Graduates can choose to progress towards the Diploma in Company Direction.
  • Growthcurv is piloting its CEOExpand, a 12-week growth strategy accelerator programme for corporate strategy development involving both board and management.
  • Aligence’s Strategic Enterprise Seminar is a one-day programme on leadership alignment to help companies develop new business models as they transform.

Looking ahead

Our current topic webinar on 12 February will explore board perspectives on scaling artificial intelligence with ISO 42001, and offer practical insights on overseeing AI adoption and embedding risks into corporate frameworks. This online session is free for members.

Members can also take part in Exercise SG Ready 2026, from 1 to 15 February. This complimentary phishing exercise will help organisations test resilience against cyber threats and strengthen readiness for disruptions.

The second round of our flagship Listed Entity Director Programme starts in March, with early bird promotions extended to the end of February.

To meet the continued demand for Governance for Outstanding Organisation Directors (SGOOD) 2.0 Programme, we are pleased to announce a new in-person session on 7 May 2026.

Do remember to register for our SID Members Networking on 4 March. Members can participate in informal networking activities and events organised by SID Chapters. Simply log into your SID account and indicate your interest under “Profile.”

Governance in the Age of Fragmentation

The world is fragmenting, and becoming a more unpredictable, more dangerous, even perilous place. In the absence of global leadership, states are challenging the notion that there is one path to development, and becoming more assertive. Southeast Asia, which has long advanced a policy of non-alignment, is finding the space for ambiguity narrowing. Michael Mayer looks at how businesses and corporate boards have to adapt and retool governance for an era where politics drives economics.

Audit and Risk Committee Seminar 2026
20 January 2026

The Audit and Risk Committee Seminar hosted timely discussions on what trust in board oversight means today – consistency, transparency and disciplined execution. In a fast-changing world shaped by geopolitical disruption and technological shifts, risks are increasingly interconnected. The role of the audit and risk committees is evolving. In building trust, boards must apply clear governance frameworks and stay abreast of developments in the technology space, including cyber risk and artificial intelligence. Whistleblowing policies must be calibrated to sustain external stakeholder trust.
