Ramping up for 2025

Dear SID Member,

Welcome back. We hope you are refreshed and ready for what looks to be an exciting 2025.

In our first newsletter of the year, we are delighted to share some exciting updates and initiatives as we continue to support and empower our community of directors and business leaders.

Singapore Budget 2025

For the first time, SID submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Finance for the Singapore Budget 2025. This was developed with KPMG Singapore, and reflected ideas from SID members. Sign up for the post-budget panel discussion for directors and CEOs on 4 March 2025 to gain key insights on the Government's priorities and proposed measures shaping Singapore's future competitiveness and resilience.

Expanding board opportunities

SID has partnered with prominent organisations to bring new opportunities to our members.
International Finance Corporation (IFC) Nominee Directorship Centre: This collaboration allows SID senior accredited directors to be considered for nominee directorship roles in IFC’s global investee companies. Applications have closed, but do look out for more initiatives for accredited members.

Ministry of Education: SID members can now be considered for positions on School Advisory Committees, contributing to the development of Singapore’s education landscape. Members can express their interest by filling out this form by 20 January 2025.

Partner benefits: Corporate members of SID now have a range of partner benefits to tap on for board solutions and services.

These partnerships underscore our commitment to expanding pathways for leadership and impact for our members.

Supporting Exercise SG READY

SID is proud to support Exercise SG READY, a national initiative to help businesses prepare for disruptions such as cyberattacks on critical infrastructure. By participating, your organisation will gain access to essential resources and readiness strategies.

Board Diversity Index

The second edition of the Board Diversity Index by SID, WTW and JCU will be unveiled on 20 January 2025, charting the progress of listed entities in Singapore. Supported by ACRA and SGX, this year’s index celebrates companies that have made advances in their board diversity journeys.

Also happening in January is the annual Audit and Risk Committee Seminar 2025 organised in collaboration with ACRA and SGX. Join us as we bring together board directors, regulators and corporate governance experts to explore the latest trends impacting audit and risk.

Accreditation exam

Do look out for our next Accreditation Exam in April (the other window is in August), with registrations beginning in February and June respectively. There is an upcoming preview for the April exam on 4 February 2025. Or you can sign up for the preparatory course here.

SID and SBF are jointly developing a Board Director Training Roadmap to equip board members of trade associations and chambers (TACs) with knowledge and skills to better govern their organisations and enhance decision-making capabilities. Watch out for more information, or tune in to the TAC Summit on 22 January 2025 for more information.

Launch of 2025 Singapore Board Diversity Index

First launched in 2020, SID, WTW and JCU are pleased to unveil the latest update of the Singapore Board Diversity Index, charting the progress of listed entities in Singapore. Supported by ACRA and SGX, this year’s index not only highlights the importance of a broader conception of board diversity in driving corporate excellence but also celebrates companies that have made remarkable progress in their diversity journeys. Building a Future-Ready Supply Chain

Difficult Conversations in the Boardroom

In this roundtable series, SID’s Nominating and Remuneration Committee Chapter provides a platform for peer learning through robust discussion and exchange of ideas, using practical case studies on critical topics and current issues. This session on tackling difficult conversations in the boardroom will be structured around a real-life case (fictionalised for confidentiality purposes). Presented with a scenario of “What would you do?,” members will have the opportunity to share their opinions and experiences, as well as brainstorm potential solutions. The Chatham House rule applies.

Director Financial Reporting Fundamentals

Designed for directors with limited or no financial/accounting background, this course provides essential accounting knowledge and practical tips. It equips participants with the key tools and concepts to review company financial statements and stay up-to-date on good financial practices.
