SYN - So, You Want to be a NonProfit Director

Course Description This course is organised in collaboration with the Centre for NonProfit Leadership. It covers what it means to be on the board of an NPO. Directors of NPOs face challenges such as fundraising and the duality of their governance and volunteer roles, in addition to those of regular directorships.

The course will provide an introduction to the directorship landscape in Singapore; the duties, liabilities and benefits of directorship in NPOs, and the key considerations for joining a nonprofit board.
Course Objectives
  1. Provide an understanding of the nonprofit landscape, the different types of nonprofit organisations, how they are different from commercial organisations, and the implications of directorship.
  2. Appreciate the macro view of the directorship landscape in Singapore, especially as it relates to nonprofit organisations.
  3. Identify the duties, responsibilities, liabilities and benefits of being a nonprofit director.
  4. Enable participants to make an informed decision before joining a nonprofit board and the next steps.

There is National Silver Academy (NSA) subsidy of $83 per eligible senior who are Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 50 and above in the year of course commencement, subject to a cap of 100 eligible seniors.
