Course description

Stakeholder engagement is the basis for good corporate governance. This module covers the duties of the board in relation to the range of stakeholders (versus only shareholders) of the enterprise. It addresses briefly the regulatory requirements related to sustainability reporting, and stakeholder engagement in the context of the sustainability agenda (covered in greater depth in the LED-ESG module). This module examines the duties and responsibilities of the board towards shareholders, including corporate reporting, general meetings, investor and media relations, and crisis management.

Course objectives

  1. Understand the importance of prioritising and providing effective organisational accountability to key stakeholders.
  2. Introduce the obligations of the board in relation to stakeholder rights and the sustainability agenda.
  3. Develop awareness of the need for transparent, accurate and timely corporate reporting and disclosures.
  4. Establish the importance of investor and media relations, and how boards should be proactive and prepare for crisis situations.
