China's greentech revolution : Uncovering the opportunities and challenges for investors

China's three decades of dynamic economic growth has propelled the country into the ranks of the leading global economies, however this growth has not been without cost. China is now the world's greatest carbon emitter and the country's fragile ecology and diverse geography is suffering massive environment degradation, caused in large part by pollution generated by heavy industry, manufacturing and meeting the country's energy demands.

The Chinese government is aware of its pertinent need to tackle the environmental externalities of development and ensure future growth, reflects efforts to move towards a low carbon economy. The application of green technologies to support these efforts creates huge opportunities for investors, enterpreneurs and companies in this market.

This workshop offers a snapshot of the green technology market in China, enabling participants to better understand the dynamics, opportunities and challenges  present in this enormous and complex market . An introduction of the China Greentech Initiative, a commercial collaboration of more than 80 leading technology companies, investors, NGOs and policy advisors, which aims to uncover, create and promote greentech opportunities in China, and to which PwC is a founding sponsor.

 

The Workshop covers: 

1. An introduction to The China Greentech Report, the first public deliverable of the China Greentech Initiative, including a summary of the key findings, China's regulatory response and development challenges
