SYS - So, You Want to be a Social Enterprise Director (New)

Course Description This course covers what it means to be on the board of a social enterprise. Social enterprises are business-social hybrids. Directors of social enterprises face unique challenges such as the duality of “doing good” and “doing well”.

The course will provide an introduction to the social enterprise landscape in Singapore; the duties, liabilities and benefits of directorship in social enterprises, and key considerations for joining a social enterprise board.
Course Objectives
  1. Provide an understanding of the social enterprise landscape, what social enterprises are, how they are different from commercial and nonprofit organisations, and the implications of directorship.
  2. Appreciate the macro view of the directorship landscape in Singapore, especially as it relates to social enterprises.
  3. Identify the duties, responsibilities, liabilities and benefits of being a social enterprise director.
  4. Enable participants to make an informed decision before joining a social enterprise board and the next steps.
