NPD - NonProfit Directors Programme

Course Description This seven-module programme is developed in collaboration with the Social Service Institute, National Council for Social Services, and supported by the Charity Council, and the Centre for NonProfit Leadership.

The programme is designed around the learning needs of board members of the NPOs. The faculty consisting of practitioners and leaders in NPOs will share their insights and knowledge of the sector with case studies to showcase the real-life struggles of boards.

The seven modules are conducted over seven months. Each module is hosted at a different venue in collaboration an NPO partner to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of ground realities relevant to the module and described in the case studies.
Course Objectives
  1. Examine the nonprofit landscape in Singapore, the implications for nonprofit governance and how it differs from those for commercial organisations.
  2. Differentiate the roles between board and management as well as board members as governors and volunteers, and analyse the practices best suited for the board.
  3. Analyse areas of strengths and gaps associated with board roles and responsibilities, and develop appropriate actions to facilitate greater organisational alignment and set board priorities for the NPO.
  4. Compare strategic options to make informed decisions that are aligned with the mission of the NPO.
  5. Understand the financial reporting requirements for compliance with the Charities Accounting Standards (CAS) and increased accountability to stakeholders.
  6. Examine fundraising approaches and stakeholder management to ensure organisational sustainability.
  7. Investigate social innovations, technologies, enterprise and other trends on the horizon to improve the effectiveness of NPOs.

Board and council members of nonprofit organisations (NPOs).
Course Duration 7-module programme (due to limited seats, priority will be given to those who sign-up for all modules).
3.5 hours per module.
Delivery Presentation, discussion and case study-based learning.
Cost $650 per module (subject to GST).
VWOs-Charities Capability Fund (VCF) funding of up to 80% of course fees is available for course participants from eligible Social Service Organisations.
CPD Hours 3.5 hours per module (24.5 hours in total for NPD).
